TRAININGS

Disability Awareness Training (DAT)

What: The Disability Awareness Training offered to non-profit and social services organizations, companies, and other community groups across Alameda County that aims to challenge stigma and bridge communication and meaningful connection between people with disabilities and the diverse communities in which we live. It includes modules such as an Introduction to Disability, Physical Disabilities and Mobility Devices, Blind/Low Vision Communities, Deaf/deaf/DeafBlind/DeafDisabled/Hard of Hearing Communities (DDBDDHH), ‘Hidden’ or ‘Invisible’ Disabilities, and more!

CONSULTATIONS

Living Well

When: Wednesdays @ 11:00AM, Orientation for the next session is April 27th.

What: A free, 10-week long peer-facilitated health workshop for older adults (aged 55+) to learn the life skills you need to set and achieve quality-of-life goals.

Work and Disability Benefits Clinic

When: Every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (30-minute appointments)

What: Interested in working, but have questions about work and disability benefits? Schedule a 30-minute phone or Google Meet appointment with TheCIL's Information and Referral Specialist, Robin Earth, to speak with her during the Work and Disability Benefits Clinic. It's a clinic for people with SSI or SSDI who have questions about how work affects disability benefits.

Tips On How To Hire Personal Attendants

When: First and third Tuesday of every month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

What: Meet one-on-one with our consultant, Owen Kent, on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month for 30-minutes to get tips and questions answered on finding, hiring, and working with personal attendants.

Queer Crips United Peer Support Group

When: Second Wednesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:30 PM

What: Sign up to Queer Crips United peer support group, a collaboration between the Pacific Center and TheCIL. This group is for folks ages 18+ living at the intersection of LGBTQIA+ and disability.

Virtual Housing Consultations for People with Disabilities and Seniors

When: First and third Thursday of every month from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM (30-minute appointments)

What: Are you a person with a disability or senior seeking and don't know how to navigate the housing process? Sign up for a Housing Consultation to discuss serious housing issues you may be facing, and receive information and resources on various housing opportunities in the Bay Area.

PEER SUPPORT GROUPS

 

Acquired Disability Peer Support Group (especially for adults under 40)

When: First Thursday of every month from 5:15 to 6:45 PM

What: Going through a significant life change can be difficult. Let’s talk about it at this peer support group held on the first Thursday of every month.

Location: Google Meet

Wheelchats

When: Bi-Monthly, Every second Wednesday from 11AM to 12PM

What: Bring your wheelchair inquiries AND answers to our bi-monthly WheelChats series. This will be an open community session for folks to ask questions, share experiences and build community! The Wheelchats series also occurs bi-monthly on every second Wednesday from 11 AM to 12 PM.
